About ten or so years ago, I was at a sleepover party for my best friend’s birthday. At some point during the party, her younger sister came up to me and introduced herself quite plainly, “My name is Emily, but you can call me Emily K.” Fast forward a handful of years, and now the little girl that wandered through those birthday parties is now a high school senior herself! She followed her sister & mom’s footsteps and joined the Golden Eagle Marching Band and participated in Color Guard & Winter Guard programs. I’ve been lucky enough watched Emily grow over the years, especially as she and my sister both spend time in the music programs at Del Oro. She spent her senior year as the Color Guard captain, to which I often reminded her that the ultimate best Color Guard Captains are named Emily. I had the fun of picking Emily up on a Sunday following a fall competition and driving her out to Bodega Bay to meet up with her family. After a handful of family photos, it was off to create some portraits of this gal to celebrate her upcoming high school graduation. Best of luck to you, not so little Emily K!
